S6M-13412: Brian Whittle: Josh Kerr Breaks British Mile Record—That the Parliament commends what it sees as the outstanding effort of Scottish athlete, Josh Kerr, from Edinburgh, in breaking Steve Cram's 39-year-old British record for the mile in the recent Diamond League in Oregon, with a time of three minutes and 45.34 seconds, beating Olympic Champion, Jakob Ingebrigtsen; understands that this places him as the sixth-fastest miler of all time; notes that this latest performance comes on the back of his World Championship 1,500m win in the 2023 Outdoor World Championships, and his World Indoor 2024 Gold Medal in the 3,000m; recognises that Scottish athletes, Neil Gourley and former World 1,500m Champion, Jake Wightman, placed fourth and fifth in the same race, with personal best times of three minutes and 47.74 seconds and three minutes and 47.83 seconds respectively, and believes that Scottish middle distance running is experiencing an amazing purple patch, and that these superb athletes are an inspiration to future athletes.
