Perhaps I am not asking the right people, but you are quite happy that things like ice-cream vans— Mr Brown wanted to comment. We already have a street traders licensing system, so we regularly engage with street traders on a variety of issues, and I cannot see why the selling of tobacco should be excluded.

I was a member, with Campbell Christie and Alice Brown, of the consultative steering group, which set up the practice and procedure of the Parliament and sent it down the road of being a participative Parliament, with the sharing of power among the people, Government and Parliament.

We need to be more realistic about the people who occupy such posts and not assume that the public will think ill of postholders if they subsequently go back to work in academia or legal services.I agree with Alice Brown, who is very experienced and knows ombudsmen around the world.
