The poor performance from the minister in this matter cannot be overstated, and the discussion in committee demonstrated that. To date, pursuing the bill has cost the taxpayer £30 million—money that has been wasted due to the incompetence of the minister and the SNP.
Why has the Government accepted that there is a housing emergency? I accept that there are post-recession financial restrictions, which have had an impact for some time; that the Liz Truss budget had a disastrous effect on inflation; and that, of course, Brexit has had an impact, too.
Child Poverty and Parental Employment Inquiry Our next agenda item is an evidence session as part of our inquiry into addressing child poverty through parental employment. Before the summer recess, we held a series of evidence sessions on childcare, education, employability and fair and family-friendly working.
We will, of course, update Parliament yearly, as the plan says; that update will happen when Parliament returns from the summer recess, which will be a year since the plan was published.
