Response from the Social Security Committee
Thank you for your letter of 9 December concerning my Committee's European activities.
To date the Social Security Committee has not engaged in any work that touches on European issues.
I discovered the joys of walking during summer recess, discovering our fantastic canal pathways, and I now know how true the expression “walking your way to better health” is.
That date aligns with the date from which the definition of “material change of circumstances” was clarified by the Non-Domestic Rates (Scotland) Act 2020 to exclude changes in general economic circumstances.
The Committee issued its consultation just before the 2023 summer recess to all the Scottish Parliament’s committees, the Parliamentary Bureau, the political parties via their business managers or party leaders and the Minister for Parliamentary Business.
S6W-39388 Fergus Ewing: To ask the Scottish Government whether it will propose a ministerial statement for after the summer recess 2025 on vaccination policy and any need for action to prevent deaths in relation to this matter.
For the rest, having them come into force on a date appointed by regulations means that the Government can appoint a date having ensured that everyone who needs to prepare for the law changing has made the necessary preparations.
