Risk management in agriculture
With a futures contract, this trade is an obligation once it has been agreed, meaning the buyer must purchase the asset, and the seller must deliver it at a specific date. With a futures contract, both parties face high risks, as prices could move against them, but companies are okay with this as the commodity needs to be bought or sold anyway.
