There is a loose phrase about assistance being"given towards investments in the fishing fleet". I will chase the matter up with the finance people.

It has always seemed to me difficult to justify that situation given the relative importance of the fishing industry in Scotland compared with its importance in the UK as a whole.The third suggested option is that a minister gives us an oral briefing on EU matters to help us to make up our minds about the extent to which we should be involved.

At present, we operate what we call a shucking regime, which means that areas that would be closed if the whole animal tested above the current action levels are allowed to continue to be fished and exploited by the Scottish industry, subject to the implementation of that shucking advice.
