Supported by: Jeremy Balfour*, James Dornan*, Edward Mountain*, Ben Macpherson*, Bob Doris*, Bill Kidd*, Sandra White*, Ash Denham*, Tom Arthur*, Fulton MacGregor*, Richard Lyle*, Alison Johnstone*, Stuart McMillan*, Ivan McKee* *S5M-01605 Gail Ross: KIMO UK Fishing For Litter Scotland Award Nomination That the — Parliament congratulates KIMO UK (Local Authorities International Environmental Organisation) on its nomination in the Ocean Awards 2017 for its project, Fishing For Litter Scotland, which engages with the Scottish fishing industry to tackle the amount of marine litter at sea, as well as raising awareness among school children and local communities; notes that the organisation works to protect, preserve and enhance the marine environment and is made up of 70 members from seven counties, with the UK membership comprising of Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeenshire Council, Argyll and Bute Council, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, The Highland Council, Orkney Islands Council and Shetland Islands Council; further notes that, in 2015, 214 boats took part in its project removing over 900 tonnes of litter from Scottish waters; welcomes the 15 participating ports in Scotland, including Ullapool, Scrabster and Kinlochbervie, which provided cost-free landing facilities for marine litter from fishing vessels; hopes that the project can build on its success in 2015 when it won a nature of Scotland award; asserts the positive outcome of this initiative, and looks forward to greater participation and greater results in the future.
