Supported by: Bill Kidd*, Stewart Stevenson*, Gordon Lindhurst*, Richard Lyle* *S5M-13627 John Finnie: A Localised Approach to Fisheries Management, North West Responsible Fishing Association That the Parliament notes the consultation conducted by the — Scottish Government into possible pilot areas for alternative approaches to managing inshore fisheries; recognises the hard work done by the North West Responsible Fishing Association in designing a proposal that would have reserved the Inner Sound for static fishing gear all year round; values the contribution of the mobile gear sector, especially in those areas of Scotland's inshore waters where trawling can be conducted in a low impact manner; acknowledges the analysis by the Scottish Creel Fisherman's Federation, which shows that creeled nephrops produce higher economic benefit and higher employment per tonne than trawled nephrops; understands that operating both static and mobile gears in the same waters can lead to gear conflict and reduced landings for creelers, and regrets the decision by the Scottish Government not to move forwards with what it sees as this valuable proposal for the Inner Sound.
