The GCPH calculated three possible annual savings based on different casualty reduction outcomes, these were £39.9 million per year (13.5% reduction in casualties), £27.1m (9.5% reduction in casualties) and £7.8m (2.6% reduction in casualties).1Scottish Parliament Information Centre. However, the Committee notes that the recent Atkins/ DfT research into the effectiveness of 20mph limits found limited evidence for any significant change in collisions or casualties in the majority of case study areas it considered, when background trends were taken into account.2Scottish Parliament Information Centre.
