*S6M-11586 Rachael Hamilton: 40-inch Salmon Wins Borders Fishing Prize—That the Parliament congratulates David Harris on his 40-inch "whopper" salmon, which scooped the River Tweed’s largest catch award, the Bemersyde Trophy; understands that the Bemersyde Trophy is the most prestigious trophy that can be won for fishing for salmon on the Tweed; notes that the winning salmon was caught on Carham beat, and was a very impressive 40 inches in length; understands that, due to the nature of the Tweed’s position, the catch occurred on the border of Scotland and England, with the salmon caught in Scotland and landed in England as a gesture of support for the Union; further understands that the junior Bemersyde Trophy was won jointly by brothers, Jacob and Finlay Ellis, with their 11 and a half pound catch; notes that the Bemersyde Trophy, initiated in 2012, grew out of Lord and Lady Haig's dedication to promoting sustainable fishing on the River Tweed; understands that salmon fishing on the Tweed contributes around £24 million per year to the local economy and supports over 500 jobs, and wishes all those who will take part in the fishing season the best of luck in trying to beat the current winning size.
