Besides being the fisheries minister in the Scottish Executive, I represent fishing communities in my constituency, so I am horrified to have to report to the chamber that it appears that the fishing vessel Solway Harvester was lost off the Isle of Man with all seven of her crew.

We often find that self-employment masks real poverty and under-claimed benefits. Communities that rely on shared fishing raise another issue. There can be problems in claiming benefits where large sections of the working population are locked out of benefits.
