Supported by: Jackie Baillie*, Alex Johnstone*, Richard Lyle*, Kenneth Gibson*, Neil Findlay* *S5M-00081 Lewis Macdonald: France Honours North East and Highland Veterans That the — Parliament congratulates the five veterans from Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and the Highlands who were awarded France honneur, at a ceremony ’s highest honour, the Ordre National de la Légion d’ at the Town House in Aberdeen on 17 May 2016; recognises that John Johnston (Gordon Highlanders), Peter Davies (Royal Artillery), Alexander Burnett (Royal Navy), Duncan Cormack (Royal Marines) and William Adie (RAF), who are now in their 90s, all took part in the Battle of Normandy, which began the liberation of France from occupation by German forces; understands that the veterans were presented with their awards by Sylvie Bermann, the Ambassador of France to the UK; congratulates the five veterans on receiving such an important honour, and thanks them for their service during the Second World War.
