Under section 5 of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979, if it appears to Scottish ministers that any works are urgently necessary for the preservation of a scheduled monument, they may enter the site of the monument and execute those works after giving the owner and the occupier notice in writing of their intention to do so.

Whilst the Executive is providing a three-year funding package towards the organisation's annual running costs for the period to 31 March 2004, no public monies have been made available or offered by the Executive towards the capital costs incurred by Airborne in relocating from its current site at Abington. Under existing legislation, it is mandatory for developers to detail the environmental impact of their proposals, especially for environmentally significant sites, and propose mitigation measures as part of their accompanying environmental statement.
Many surveyors have supplemented these qualifications with the NHER Site Assessor qualification. Prior to undertaking surveys for Eaga, surveyors must participate in a four-day training course which is specially designed by Eaga and leading experts in the field.

Following careful consideration of a number of possible sites, ministers have decided that, should Parliament approve the Water Industry (Scotland) Bill, the Headquarters of Scottish Water will be in Castle House, Dunfermline.

Since the end of August, there have been extensive discussions between Scottish Executive officials and the East Ayrshire Council Director of Community Services about proposals for the disposal of the ash from the three pyre sites in the South of Scotland. These included meetings in Glasgow and Kilmarnock.
