To ask the Scottish Executive what importance it places on having a fully-functioning health service in areas seeking to attract economic development. The Scottish Executive believes it is important to have high quality health care available throughout Scotland.

This was discussed with the industry, but was seen as less important than other priorities, such as the industry's image, attracting young people into the industry and training issues.
To ask the Scottish Executive, with regard to key priority 2.3 outlined in its National Cultural Strategy, what progress has been made in ensuring that Scotland attracts international events. I refer the member to the answer given to question S1W-16061.
We have done some work as part of a larger commission on the future of the private rented sector and we have made representations to the UK Parliament on the Housing Bill for England.
To ask the Scottish Executive, further to the answer to question S2W-13372 by Tavish Scott on 26 January 2005, what the suicide rate was in (a) 1999-2000, (b) 2000-01, (c) 2001-02, (d) 2002-03 and (e) 2003-04, broken down by local authority area.
Currently, the council comprises 50 members, of whom 26 are elected every four years. The order concerns the elections that are due during the course of this year.
That will support NHS Scotland in reducing waiting times and progressing towards sustainable delivery of the 26-week target through locally owned and initiated solutions.

I accept that in some respects—the fallowing of sites, for example—we should be able to exercise greater discretion in future and, in so doing, bring some relief to the industry.
To ask the Scottish Executive whether it has any plans to allow health boards to vary the remuneration rates for key NHS staff in order to attract and retain them. Provisions already exist to allow health boards to vary remuneration rates.
