The FirstMinister gave a keynote address on "The New Scotland; Attracting Fresh Talent"at Columbia University as well as hosting a joint SDI/Forbes Magazine seminar promotingthe excellence of Scotland's Financial Services.
I know that the OFT's role is not specifically to plan services, but surely the strategic planning of services for the future would be a vital factor to take into account when considering potential savings.
Fundamental to the success of the business in future will be new IT systems that will allow a lot more joined-up work and which will facilitate the team working that I spoke about.
We did a similar exercise on the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002, which is a tremendous piece of legislation and a credit to Westminster and the Scottish Parliament.
However, in our mechanism for delivering rail projects in the future, a rail project will at the very outset form part of the national planning framework, so there will be an opportunity for Parliament to pass comment.
