Of those surveyed, 70 per cent said that someone they knew had attacked them; of those, 25 per cent were the victims of attacks by friends and another 30 per cent were attacked by colleagues or fellow students. Strangers carried out only 7 per cent of the attacks. Those figures are even more pronounced in information provided by the Rape Crisis Federation, which found that 97 per cent of callers to rape crisis lines knew their assailant, but fewer than 7 per cent had reported the crime to the police.
