*S6M-11706 Paul O'Kane: Cuts to Local Bus Services in Renfrewshire—That the Parliament notes what it sees as the disappointing decision by Key Coaches to, it understands, withdraw two services supporting communities in Johnstone from April 2024; understands that the 1 and 5 routes provide a link for the Johnstone Castle and Spateston areas to Johnstone town centre; acknowledges that these routes have been described as a "lifeline" for older residents; understands that this comes in the context of cuts and reductions to other services in Renfrewshire, including Key Coaches’ route 3 and McGill’s routes 3 and 51; further understands that, across Scotland, passenger miles are down 40% in the last five years, according to Scottish Transport Statistics for 2022; believes that maintaining service provision is a vital part of increasing bus and coach use, which is an important element of the net zero transition; further believes that local bus services provide vital links for communities and individuals across Scotland; urges bus operators to pay close attention to the effects of changes to service provision on communities and individuals, and calls on the Scottish Government to ensure that bus services are run as a public service for the public good, and to take action to ensure that bus services are reliable, accessible, affordable, and, crucially, available.
