We believe that it is particularly important to have dedicated places for head teachers in view of their key role in leading and managing schools.Amendments 97 and 100 would increase the number of elected schoolteachers, other than head teachers, from 14 to 22, and the overall number of elected teacher members from 25 to 26. The effect of the amendments, whether Brian Monteith intended it or not, is to prohibit head teachers from seeking elected membership of the GTC.For the reasons that I have outlined, I cannot accept amendments 4, 5, 92, 93, 94, 96, 97, 98 and 100, and I call on Brian Monteith not to press them.Karen Gillon's amendments—amendments 91, 95 and 112—propose an increased number of teachers on the GTC so that the overall number of elected teacher members would increase from 25 to 26.
