In November 2022, the boards of management at UHI North Highland, UHI Outer Hebrides and UHI West Highland formally approved the proposal to merge the three colleges. The new, single UHI college is due to be up and running from August 2023.
The Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform, Roseanna Cunningham MSP, wrote to the Chair of the EAC on 26 February 2019 and said:
