S6M-18731: David Torrance: Congratulations to Fife College on Being Awarded a £2.4 Million Modern Apprenticeship Contract—That the Parliament congratulates Fife College on being awarded a £2.4 million modern apprenticeship (MA) contract from Skills Development Scotland, which, it understands, is the largest MA contract in its history; welcomes reports that, for the academic year 2025-26, this will bring up to 438 new apprenticeships and that the number of apprentices "earning while learning" with the college will be more than 1,200; recognises that the MA programme at the college offers courses across several sectors, including engineering, automotive, healthcare, childcare, construction, life sciences, digital technologies and various business skills; believes that these give learners the technical skills, knowledge and experience that they need to succeed; recognises that MAs are an important route to gain the skills and experiences that employers are looking for, while the students are also earning; considers that, for businesses, they provide an excellent route to develop enthusiastic new talent with the exact skills that they need; recognises the hard work and dedication of the staff of the college, and their employer partners, to make these opportunities possible, and further recognises the contribution that it believes such MAs make to supporting the economy, by developing a skilled workforce that meets the needs of employers across the region.

S6M-07897: Stuart McMillan: Proposed Closure of Amazon Gourock - That the Parliament regrets the decision taken by Amazon to announce the potential closure of its Gourock facility, in the Greenock and Inverclyde constituency; understands that, on 9 January 2023, Amazon unexpectedly announced to its staff that it was launching a consultation on the proposed closure of the site, potentially making around 300 people unemployed; acknowledges reports that Amazon has offered to relocate its Gourock-based staff to other facilities it operates in Scotland; understands that the only similar site in Scotland is located in Dunfermline, which has reportedly led to an acceptance that it is unlikely that the majority of the Gourock-based staff will move to another position within the company; notes with PB/S6/23/30 concern that Amazon is reportedly yet to explain its rationale for closing the site to its staff, local elected representatives, and the Scottish Government; understands that the age of the building at the Faulds Park location may have been a factor in the decision; believes that, if that is the case, concerns about the age of the building had not been raised with any elected representatives who have visited...
