LCMs for a number of different UK Bills have been referred to this Committee during this 2021-26 Parliamentary session. The Committee has found that in practice reporting on them has often meant expressing a view on relatively narrow issues, because most of the Bill relates to reserved matters or does not geographically extend to Scotland.
In the longer term, as Claire Sweeney said, it is imperative that boards look at how they provide services and make the best use of taxpayers’ money while meeting the needs of the local population.
This scheme will give young islanders in these communities the same opportunities as free bus travel provides for many children and young people in mainland communities and was a key commitment in the transport budget for 2025-26. I also remain committed to extending our existing scheme providing four free journeys to or from the Scottish mainland to more young people on our islands in 2025-26.
