The Assisted Dying for Terminally Ill Adults (Scotland) Bill and the European Convention on Human Rights - Assisted dying and Convention rights

The European Court of Human Rights has held that the right to life does not encompass a right to decide when and how to die. However, Article 2 does not prevent a state introducing assisted dying as long as there are suitable safeguards against abuse.

Dr Winnington is actively involved in a number of research projects, including a systematic review on the use of cannabinoids in palliative care, and the developmental work to support timely symptom management for those choosing to die at home within the Dumfries and Galloway region of Scotland.
