Scottish Crofting Federation_supplementary evidence to Land Reform Scotland Bill 17 February 2025

The acquisition of land by the public sector has the advantage that the main problems associated with current crofting regulation – i.e. the unregulated market and breaches of duties – can be avoided. When designating new crofting areas and creating new tenanted crofts, Ministers can restrict the right to buy which is causal for the escalating market in croft tenancies.
