However, it is estimated that each year more than 13,000 people in Scotland die from smoking-related diseases, including lung cancer, coronary heart disease and stroke.
The issue has a lot to do with fire risk statistics and how to target the most vulnerable groups of people. Relatively few of the people who die in fires die in public buildings; sadly, most of them die in their own homes.
That combination of forces will add momentum to our proposal for GM-free zones, which is a product of the cautionary and sceptical approach that I have outlined.The other side of the same coin, however, relates to the issue that was raised by Sarah Boyack.
