That seems a significantly more important dialogue to get under way.As for UK comparisons on local government autonomy and council tax levels, I have to say that, when I was a finance convener in a local authority, I was not concerned about how Edinburgh or Scotland compared to the rest of the UK when local government allocations were made.

It is precisely because, not only do we have all these improvements in Scotland, but we have also exposed in recent weeks the SNP's plans to take more than £1 billion out of our higher education system and more than £1 billion out of local council services as well as to reduce corporation tax and leave a £1.4 billion gap in the Scottish economy, as announced by Alex Neil in the chamber last week.
