*S6M-20166 Kevin Stewart: Making Cancer Screening Services More Accessible—That the Parliament welcomes new research from the University of Aberdeen and the Grampian Regional Equality Council (GREC), which outlines ways to make cancer screening services more accessible to underserved groups, including people from more deprived areas and people from ethnic minority communities, particularly those from Polish and African backgrounds; notes that the project, which was funded by NHS Grampian, worked directly with communities in the Grampian region to explore the reasons behind low uptake of cancer screening services, such as cervical smear tests, mammograms and bowel screenings, and identified practical changes to make such services more community informed and culturally tailored; understands that some of these recommendations are already being used in Cancer Research UK’s national guidance for breast cancer screening; congratulates all those involved in the study, including Dr Sarah Prowse, who led the study at the University of Aberdeen, and hopes that this research leads to earlier cancer diagnoses and improved treatment outcomes.
