Town Centres and Retail
The remit for the inquiry was to—
Identify the new realities of retail and e-commerce in Scotland and the resulting impact on town centres.
In addition to providing support Audit Scotland, together with appointed auditors, monitor the participation and progress of bodies, and at the culmination of each exercise we produce a national report. The latest report in 2022 can be found here.
In addition to this, there has been discrete investment in supporting health workers with housing costs in remote and rural areas, as I referred to in evidence, including support with defraying initial accommodation costs for new international recruits, and with investment in infrastructure in NHS Shetland to house visiting staff.
This latest quarterly data from December 2025 reports that 391 people on the DSR were recorded as being in the urgent category (down from 459 in December 2024).
