What is the UK Government’s reaction to not just the convener of this committee and Mr Harvie and others very forcefully expressing a contrary view, but the Scottish Government itself expressing a contrary view that Sewel is broken and needs to be fixed?
The ASPS submission refers to concerns that were expressed by the Police Executive Research Forum—that was back in 2015, but I presume that the principles were in existence at that time.
I suggest that we also ask the Government and the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities how many sites there were 20 years ago, how many sites there were 10 years ago and how many sites there are at present.
We had hoped to extend that to animal inspections and some other things, but we have since de-scoped the animal inspections part—that is the second thing that we have taken out.
There would be a need for technical geomapping information from SPS regarding sites, locations and distances from prison, and there is also a need to consider exemptions, so a few things have to be bottomed out.
