I want to ask a number of questions, which I would prefer to be answered in private, about the three nominees who are listed in the paper. With the exception of the shortlist of organisations for the tender, I am happy for the item to be taken in public.
I simply ask the SSP and the SNP to tell us the number of independent schools that they have visited. For example, have they ever visited Gordonstoun, which was set up in the 1930s by a Jew fleeing Nazi persecution?
I am particularly pleased that the committee took the opportunity to get out and about. The committee visited Shetland—I hope that that visit was as enjoyable as the visit to California was.
We have done that by comparisons with other public sector costs. There are obvious comparative costs for secondary education, but there are also comparators in health and other services.
The first is international co-operation in research and technical assistance and the second is comparative studies. We do not need to reinvent the wheel in Scotland.
We feel that special schools are not just buildings in which to accommodate the exceptional children who cannot be included at a mainstream educational location.
