Supported by: Miles Briggs*, Stephanie Callaghan*, Annabelle Ewing*, Jeremy Balfour*, Bill Kidd* *S6M-04666 Maggie Chapman: International Week of Solidarity with the Peoples of Non- Self-Governing Territories—That the Parliament acknowledges the UN General Assembly resolution 54/91 which, since 6 December 1999, has requested the annual observance of the International Week of Solidarity with the Peoples of Non-Self-Governing Territories, which in 2022 ran from 25 to 31 May; understands that, at present, there are 17 such territories remaining, according to the definition set out under Chapter XI of the Charter of the UN, and that the administrating powers of these territories, including the UK, have an obligation under the UN Charter to uphold the principle and practice of self-determination for people living in them; believes that the interests of the inhabitants must be paramount and further believes that as what it sees as a sacred trust, and as a constituent nation of the UK, Scotland must recognise the obligation to promote their wellbeing, to take effective measures to safeguard and guarantee the inalienable rights of these peoples to their natural resources, including land, and to establish and maintain control over the future development of those resources; considers that there is a need to ensure the political, economic, social and educational advancement of the peoples of the Non-Self- Governing Territories, and, within the limits of devolved powers, undertakes to assist them in developing self-government and democratic political institutions.
