One of the few good things that emerged from Covid was how quickly the colleges, particularly Ayrshire College—I have to mention it—adapted to the circumstances in which they found themselves. It is a credit to the staff and students how quickly they responded and adapted to the new online world in which they lived.
The initial improvement plan was a driver for that but all credit to the organisation for rolling up its sleeves and working hard to make big changes in how it engages with external stakeholders.
There are probably many businesses in Scotland that fulfil all the criteria for Scotland’s business pledge but do not seek the accreditation to get the credit for doing that. The same goes for the living wage.
Our international connections are important, and simple actions can have a lasting impact. I express my admiration for everyone who was involved in the making of the film.
I have been having discussions recently with early years practitioners, youth workers and health visitors, and they are all telling me the same thing: they are not getting the support that they need after two years-plus of the pandemic.
