Meeting of the Parliament 11 June 2025

We continue to engage with the United Kingdom Government’s free trade agreements programme to protect our more sensitive sectors, and our programme for government includes a six-point export plan to help businesses tap into new markets and increase sales. Given the EY ITEM—independent treasury economic model—club’s downgrade of Scotland’s growth to just 0.6 per cent for 2025-26, and the repeated warnings from both EY and the Fraser of Allander Institute about underinvestment, weak productivity and widening regional inequality, is it not clear that the Scottish National Party’s failure to invest, reform and lead has taken Scotland into a cul-de-sac of long-term economic stagnation, and that it has in fact taken a UK Labour Government to finally deliver for Scottish exporters by cutting red tape on food exports and giving service businesses the certainty that they have long needed?

PB_2025_Paper012

S6M-16045: Christine Grahame: Ending Low Welfare Animal Activities Abroad —That the Parliament believes that wild animals are exploited globally on a massive scale for entertainment, including being forced to undertake unnatural behaviours to train them to perform; considers that dolphin entertainment, such as "swim-with" experiences and dolphin shows, elephant rides and bathing, tiger selfies and various other forms of wild animal entertainment are cruel and that the training methods and the enclosures in which they are kept cannot meet their welfare needs; recognises that the sale...

PE2072_B

Petitioner submission of 22 January 2024 PE2072/B: Offer covid 19 vaccine boosters to teachers and school staff I had tried to word this petition so that it would not be unnecessarily complicated by party political or constitutional issues, however, the response from the Scottish Government doesn't leave much choice. And my comments here contain no new information as such, as the inadequacy of the JCVI advice (which the government response ignores) is clearly implicit in the reason for the petition: it is precisely because the JCVI advice has proved inadequate to prevent transmission in schools, as seen in recent surges (and the ensuing Long Covid cases) that we should be offering the latest vaccines to school staff (and college staff: I should have included them in the original wording as the transmission vectors are so similar).
