Supported by: Pam Duncan-Glancy*, Colin Beattie*, David Torrance*, Marie McNair*, Stuart McMillan* *S6M-09554 Kevin Stewart: Artificial Intelligence Use in Breast Cancer Screening—That the Parliament recognises what it sees as the pioneering work of NHS Grampian, the University of Aberdeen and Kheiron Medical Technologies on developing new technology to utilise artificial intelligence (AI) in breast cancer screening; understands that the AI software, named Mia, uses AI to detect abnormalities that would have been missed using existing screening procedures; notes that the development included the analysis of 220,000 mammograms from more than 55,000 people, and that Mia has been shown to be successful in identifying potentially missed cancers, known as "interval" cancers, which are detected between screening visits, where Mia would have suggested recalling 34.1% of those who went on to develop cancer in between screenings; appreciates what it sees as the potential of this new technology, and commends all those involved in its development and assessment to date.
