Businesses registering for VAT/PAYE in Scotland increased by 15.2% between 2002 and 2008 “ compared to a UK increase of 11.4%. Excluding London, the UK increase was only 7.9% over the period.

To ask the Scottish Executive what the incidence is of cancer, broken down by age group, and what comparative information it has for (a) the United Kingdom as a whole, (b) each EU member state and (c) each OECD nation.
Professor Stephen Woolcock, of the London School of Economics, estimates that the trade-weighted average EU tariff is 22 per cent on agricultural products, compared to 2.9 per cent on manufactured goods.
To ask the Scottish Executive how the drop-out rates from nursing schools in Scotland compare with those in England in the most recent year for which comparable figures are available.
It is a difficult thing to judge because of the issue of comparing like with like. My guess would be that if we compared an area such as Cumbria with an area such as Cheshire, we would find big differences.
