Supported by: Gordon MacDonald*, Bill Kidd*, Stewart Stevenson*, Ruth Maguire* *S5M-06921 Jackie Baillie: First Steel Cut on Type 26 Frigates at Glasgow Shipyards That — the Parliament welcomes the news that work has started on the new Type 26 Frigates for the Royal Navy at shipyards on the Clyde; notes that the new frigates will provide a programme of work that will enable highly-skilled shipyard jobs to be secured at the Govan and Scotstoun yards until the 2030s; understands that the first ship to be built will be named HMS Glasgow, which it considers to be a reflection of the city s world-class shipbuilding heritage; wishes the yards all the ’ best with this new opportunity, and strongly believes that further contracts will be secured for Scotland s shipbuilding industry in the future. ’ Supported by: Alex Rowley*, Liam Kerr* *S5M-06920 Donald Cameron: Locheilnet Set to Expand That the Parliament welcomes the — news that the Locheilnet Community Interest Company is set to expand after being awarded £42,000 by Community Broadband Scotland (CBS) and its delivery body, Highlands and Islands Enterprise; recognises that it was established in 2012 ,with the aim of providing fast and reliable wireless broadband to properties around Loch Eil, Treslaig, Clunes and Achnacarry, and has since expanded to Glenfinnan, Kentallen and South Laggan; acknowledges that it has around 400 customers, who are able to access download speeds of up to 20Mbps; understands that the new round of funding will allow it to upgrade its core network, deliver new masts at Treslaig and Tulloch and provide superfast broadband to several other villages in Lochaber, and congratulates the company on its work to date in providing broadband to some of the most rural communities in the west Highlands.
