S6M-13439: Katy Clark: Crisis in Scotland's Retained Fire Service - That the Parliament notes that Scotland’s retained Fire and Rescue Service covers 80% of the landmass of the country, including the West Scotland region, with over 2,700 Fire and Rescue Service personnel working out of 240 fire stations, serving urban and rural communities 365 days a year; is concerned that what it sees as years of budget reductions, the loss of jobs, a recruitment crisis and low pay have resulted in around 150 retained crewed fire appliances a day being "off the run" and unable to respond to emergency calls; understands that retained firefighters are required to make themselves available for 80 to 120 hours a week and be able to attend their nearest fire station within five to eight minutes of a call, and in return they are paid a retainer of £2,717 to £3,623 per year, with additional payments for training, drill nights and emergency calls, meaning that for most retained firefighters it is their secondary employment and they need another job to make ends meet; further understands that there is a 29% vacancy rate with 11% of recruits reportedly leaving the service in 2022-23 alone; notes the belief that this situation is completely untenable, and further notes the calls for the Scottish Government and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, which is consulting on the future of the service, to urgently address what it sees as this crisis in the retained service.

S6M-09941: Pauline McNeill: Glasgow's Night Bus Services - That the Parliament notes with concern the reported withdrawal of night bus services in Glasgow, as announced by First Bus on 10 July 2023; believes that a late night bus service is essential in the city to ensure that people relying on public transport can get home safely and affordably; further believes that reliability, accessibly and frequency of services is paramount to people finding the service easy to use; notes the support for the various campaigns to get Glasgow moving and Unite the Union’s hospitality workers' campaign to make travel easy and safe for late night workers; further notes the view that research should be conducted to establish what level of service is needed in the city; considers that there is public support to have bus services publicly owned and operated, and notes the calls on First Bus, Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) and all bus operators to prioritise servicing passengers over increasing profits.

S6M-11518: Rohda Grant: Bank of Scotland Ending Mobile Branch Services across Scotland - That the Parliament regrets the recently announced end of mobile branch services from the Bank of Scotland to several towns and villages across Scotland, including several in the Highlands and Islands region; understands that the end of these services will take effect in May 2024; further understands that, although the Bank of Scotland notes that there has been low use of its banking vans, some rural residents will be left without local banking services and will have to travel several miles to reach such services; believes that this will disproportionately affect elderly people and disabled people who potentially cannot travel or access mobile banking services, and notes the calls for the Bank of Scotland to reconsider these plans or implement alternative plans so that everyone can access suitable bank services easily.
