Monday 16 January 2023 13 Today's Business Future Business Motions & Questions Legislation Other Gnothaichean an-diugh Gnothaichean ri teachd Gluasadan agus Ceistean Reachdas Eile Motions | Gluasadan *S6M-07465 Jamie Greene: Proposed Amazon Gourock Site Closure—That the Parliament expresses concern regarding the announcement of the proposed and potential closure of the Amazon distribution site in Gourock, Inverclyde; recognises what it considers the importance of Amazon as a major local employer for nearly two decades in Inverclyde, currently employing, it understands, around 300 workers at the Gourock site as part of a 3,500 strong Scotland-based workforce; further recognises what it sees as the potential impact of the site closure on local charities supported by Amazon’s Gourock site such as the Ardgowan Hospice in Greenock; notes the calls on Amazon to fully consult on the effects that such a decision will have on the local community, prior to making a final decision; further notes the calls on Amazon, Inverclyde Council, the Scottish and UK governments and all other relevant public bodies and governmental stakeholders to urgently and immediately support workers affected by any unfavourable outcome; acknowledges the requests for Amazon to retain as many staff as possible within its organisation, whether through relocation or other means; further acknowledges Amazon’s publicly made pledge to assist all staff members seeking new roles outside the company with adequate and suitable retraining for future employment; considers that there is an increasing lack of economic foresight and resilience across the country to what it sees as the accelerating trend of large technology- based fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies consolidating people-led sites into centralised locations centred around robotic labour; acknowledges what it sees as the longstanding resilience of the people of Inverclyde to adapt and change to economic challenges and changes, and notes the calls to support them during this difficult period.

Supported by: Bill Kidd*, Stephanie Callaghan*, Evelyn Tweed*, Annabelle Ewing* *S6M-02676 Karen Adam: Recognising the Efforts of Boyndie Visitor Centre in the Aftermath of Storm Arwen—That the Parliament commends what it sees as the extraordinary efforts of the local community in Ladysbridge and Boyndie in offering support to neighbours in need, who were often without electricity or running water in the aftermath of Storm Arwen; applauds those who helped in whatever way they were able, offering food and hot drinks and, in some cases, opening their properties to people in need; believes that this exemplifies true grit and selfless community spirit; recognises, in particular, the efforts of Boyndie Visitor Centre which, it understands, helped ensure that residents of Ladysbridge and Boyndie received a hot meal, a friendly welcome and somewhere to stay during this challenging time, and wishes everyone at the Boyndie Visitor Centre success in their future endeavours.
