The Scottish Government instead turned attention to the short-term prison population which resulted in the passage of the Prisoners (Early Release) (Scotland) Act 2024 on 26 November. The changes brought about by this Act - referred to as STP40 – mean that for the majority of STPs, their release date moves from the 50% point to the 40% point of their sentence.
