The 2006 Tartan Day programme will include a large number of events that will showcase Scotland as a place to visit, live and work. The Executive works with private, public and voluntary sector bodies in Scotland and in the USA to co-ordinate the programme.

The Scottish Executive and First ScotRail are both members of the Prestwick Rail Improvement Group which I announced during my visit to the airport in September. The first meeting of the Group, led by Strathclyde Passenger Transport Executive, will be held on 16 December.

There is no need for potential visitors from the rest of the UK or abroad to be concerned about visiting Scotland. But VisitScotland has contingency plans, and has formed a joint action group with the tourism industry to look at what additional action should be taken to promote Scottish tourism, should this prove necessary.
