Looking ahead to the Scottish Government - Health Budget 2019-20: Is the budget delivering the desired outcomes for health and social care in Scotland? - Shifting the balance of care

Family health and prescribing and social care budgets have reduced as a proportion of the total budget, while there have been modest increases in the shares of IA budgets accounted for by both hospital and community healthcare. [2018-19 data are based on only 26 IAs as information was not provided by four IAs] IA budgets by service area While these figures do suggest progress in shifting the budgets towards community healthcare, this appears to be at the expense of family health services/prescribing and social care, rather than resulting from a reduction in hospital expenditure, which is showing an increased proportion of spend.
