The central objective of the UN’s Paris Agreement is to hold global temperature increases to “well below 2°C above preindustrial levels” and to pursue “efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels”.
Although the Scottish Position Statement does not form part of the formal reporting to the UN Committee, the document has been developed to cover the same time period as the LOIPR, from the previous UN examination of the UK in 2016 to present.
