We calculated the numbers for the old approach and for our new way of categorising things, and we found that in 16 of the 32 councils the introduction of the new indicator—SIMD data—had no impact at all on councillor numbers; there would have been exactly the same number of councillors if we had used a new ratio but kept the old way of categorising things.
Historically, one of the problems in that context has been vested interests and established views. We need new ideas, new possibilities and new strategic thinking.
This year, we have increased our coverage of the Scottish women’s premier league from 20 games to 26 games. We are incrementally growing our commitment to women’s sport but, again, not to a target.
