I was certainly pleased to see that, in the first two weeks of the project, the website alone had 11,000 unique visitors, 77 per cent of whom were from the United Kingdom, which means, of course, that others came from further afield.
I assume that animals that are found alive are captured by either local authority workers or the police and transferred to the care of another organisation such as the SSPCA, the Dogs Trust or a similar animal welfare organisation.
We should write to the Government and ask for its response to the petition.I cannot think of an example since I joined the committee in which we have expressly said to the Government that it needs to do something differently. We should facilitate the transfer of information and, if need be, call for further evidence.
However, I will ask my officials to update the programme on the project website as soon as possible and to highlight that to stakeholders in their newsletter.
Having more accessibility and more information available on websites and things is great, but we need to go and meet fishermen more where they are at—quite literally, by going out to the coastal communities to have the discussions, presenting the information there and taking any questions that there might be as well.
