The witness scheduler that Assistant Chief Constable Higgins talked about is a web-based application that has made a huge difference to the number of police officers who are required.
I would therefore say that it is a breathing space, but, without perspective on what will happen in 2024-25 and 2025-26, it is hard to predict what it will allow us to do.
Examples of this include:
private meetings with survivors of domestic abuse;
fact-finding visits to prisons, police and fire stations, courts and third sector organisations;
online surveys; and
informal meetings with children and young people.
However, I wanted to come back in to say that, following last week’s visit, all is not lost. Other members should take the opportunity to visit the SQA and see the amount of work that is being done.
