The investment that the Scottish Government has committed is absolutely key to the future of our healthcare system. Investment is also needed in our staff to ensure that we have facilities that are fit for the needs of the population and for the future.
A recent example is what we did with our three main acute sites in Tayside. The work was procured under an energy performance contract, so there was no up-front cost to the board, and we put in the latest combined heat and power technology at Ninewells and two other sites.
I agree that that has to be part of our thinking. Jim Hume, as to his credit he does regularly—although I do not always agree with every element—raised many issues around the future of mental health services, most of which I agree with.
Some key decisions need to be made to allow us to work out what a full-time student will be in the future and what the value will be of the weighted credit in future.
The cabinet secretary will know that, back in May, NHS Lothian commissioned a paper to look at the option of staying on the current site at Sciennes. That site was rejected as not being fit for purpose for the Royal hospital for sick children in 2003.
