On 17 and 18 February, we marked 200 years since the rediscovery of the tomb of Robert the Bruce, and this weekend just past, we have been celebrating 200 years since the laying of the foundation stone of the “new” abbey church. The first of those two events, the rediscovery of the tomb, led to a hurried redrafting of the plans for the new building by the architect, William Burn.

Adult mental health Angus HSCP to PAC 4 December 2023

We have self funded a joint mental health/substance use pharmacy post in Angus to further support this new way of working, after planned Scottish Government funding for this was not forthcoming due to cuts in the Scottish Government funding for new pharmacy posts.

There are 55 energy efficiency projects in the works for council buildings, including the potential installation of photovoltaic panels in schools and nurseries. The new-build homes programme is achieving a fantastic B energy performance certificate rating and the council recently increased its electric vehicle fleet to 26.

There is a strong base there to work from, but we need to make sure that that translates into our tax revenues. The latest forecast of the net position for income tax in 2023-24 has also improved, rising from £325 million at the time of the Scottish budget to £411 million in the latest forecast.

Through that strategy, we are creating an enhanced curriculum offer to equip young people in schools and colleges with the skills to succeed in current and future labour markets. That has included the creation of new work-based learning options; enabling young people to learn in a range of settings in their senior phase of school; building employer engagement in education; providing careers advice at an earlier point in school; and introducing new standards for career education and work placements.
