Supported by: Colin Beattie*, Pauline McNeill*, Neil Bibby*, Pam Duncan-Glancy* *S6M-11636 Sandesh Gulhane: The Burrell Collection Wins Best Visitor Attraction Award— That the Parliament congratulates The Burrell Collection in Glasgow on winning the Best Visitor Attraction award at the 2023 Thistle Awards national final, which took place at the Glasgow Hilton on 1 December; understands that the Thistle Awards are Scottish tourism and events awards, delivered by VisitScotland, which celebrate the best of tourism in the country and outstanding achievements in innovation, collaboration, and sustainable practices; notes that the Best Visitor Attraction award celebrates attractions that provide world class service with an authentic Scottish experience; recognises that the judges commended The Burrell Collection on its commitment to the visitor experience and the planning that went into re-opening the museum in 2022 after an extensive refurbishment and redisplay; understands that the refurbished museum, which welcomed 600,000 visitors in the first 12 months after it reopened, houses the 9,000-object art collection of Sir William and Constance Burrell, and offers one of Europe’s most significant displays of Chinese and Islamic art, along with paintings by the Old Masters and the Glasgow Boys; celebrates that the award has recognised the significance of The Burrell Collection as a museum with a global reputation and appeal; commends all of the team at The Burrell Collection for this achievement, and wishes them all the best for the continued success of the museum as a major draw of tourism to Glasgow.
