*S5M-12436 Richard Lochhead: New Distillery and Visitor Centre in Moray for The Macallan That the Parliament congratulates Edrington on the unveiling of The Macallan — ’s £140 million state-of-the-art distillery and visitor centre at Easter Elchies in Speyside, Moray; notes that the project is part of a £500 million investment by Edrington in its brand and that the distillery was designed by the architects, Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, whose other works include the Millennium Dome in Greenwich, the Leadenhall Building in the City of London and the Guggenheim in Helsinki; acknowledges that the new facility was built by the Moray-based company, Robertson, which worked with 25 contractors to bring the vision to reality; understands that it gets 95% of its energy from renewable sources and can produce up to a third more whisky than its predecessor, thanks to having 36 new copper stills, which were built by the Moray- firm, Forsyths; notes that the structure, which is set in the naturally sloping contours of the landscape, includes one of the most complex timber roof structures in the world, which is comprised of 380,000 individual pieces, and has been planted with indigenous grass and wildflowers; believes that this impressive distillery and visitor centre will have a significant positive effect on the area's economy in that it will create 60 new jobs and attract visitors from around the world; notes that Edrington is anticipating that the number of visitors will increase each year; commends the company on its vision in producing what it sees as such a magnificent facility, and looks forward to its public opening on 2 June 2018.
