Lived experience engagement
The Committee met with members of Scottish Women's Aid's Survivor Reference Group (SRG) on 26 March and 11 June 2025. The SRG is made up of women with lived experience of domestic abuse.
This should include details of how it will be reviewed in future, to ensure that any guidance keeps pace with the changing care landscape and remains fit for purpose. 262.
It is a very complex issue; however, it is clear that already vulnerable women are being badly affected by universal credit’s worst aspects, such as the five-week wait, punitive sanctions and the hated two-child limit.
The Government is not a greenfield site—it cannot just build an entirely new system using the best available modern system; it has to upgrade over time.
