Members' Business motions that have not achieved cross party support *S5M-05360 Brian Whittle: Sporting Memories Network That the Parliament commends the — work of the Sporting Memories Network across Scotland, including in the South Scotland region; understands that the organisation supports older people across the UK living with dementia, depression and loneliness by engaging them in social activities and helping them to recall memories of watching or playing sport, reawakening positive thoughts and feelings that are otherwise hidden away; considers that meeting a group of people and discussing memories of sport can not only help people to form new friendships and a sense of community but also help to restore a person s sense of identity and allow them to reconnect with others; acknowledges the ’ Sporting Memories Network's commitment to working in partnership with a range of community organisations, sports clubs and sports personalities, such as Dame Katherine Grainger; considers that social interaction and building on shared interests can make a real difference to an individual s ’ mental health, and thanks the Sporting Memories Network for its continued efforts in this area.
